Sugar Skulls for Day of the Dead/Calaveritas de Azúcar para el Día de los Muertos

Life & Death partnered with Gorton Community Center for the first time on a program this year. I have lived in the community of Lake Forest for 20 years—Gorton is truly the heart of the community and a part of my family. To commemorate Día de los Muertos/Day of the Dead, we offered up an afternoon screening of the Disney animated movie “Coco”, and a “grab and go” activity of sugar skull decorating kits created by Maria Calderon of Sugar Skulls Xioltl. I asked that any artists who were willing to share the results of their decorating efforts to send me photos of their finished product. Here are the images that have come to me so far, in the order that they were received. Thanks to all who attended and participated! See you next year, in-person, decorating together.
